They live primarily in warm, clear waters of the tropics, forming reefs that can stretch for hundreds of kilometers. Their role in the marine ecosystem is multifaceted. They serve as a refuge and breeding ground for a wide range of marine creatures, including fish, crustaceans, and mollusks.
