Ghost of the Pangalanes – Limited Edition of 30
Captured deep along Madagascar’s remote Pangalanes Canal, this portrait reveals one of the world’s most elusive primates – the aye-aye (Daubentonia madagascariensis).
Using a deliberately slow shutter speed, I sought to create an image that mirrors the animal’s presence: fleeting, almost spectral. In the dim light, its form seems to emerge from the forest itself, blurring the line between reality and legend.
The Pangalanes Canal, a ribbon of interconnected lakes and waterways along Madagascar’s eastern coast, carries both the lifeblood of local communities and the whispers of its wildlife. The aye-aye, often shrouded in superstition, survives here in pockets of habitat threatened by deforestation and changing landscapes.
This work is an homage to the fragile coexistence between humans and this ghost of the forest – a reminder that some of nature’s most extraordinary beings are also its most vulnerable.
